As children we are all faced with challenges. Many of us suffered from broken homes, abuse, neglect, bullying, the list goes on. How we overcome these challenges is what separates us. Some of us choose to let it define us and we continue to be a victim. We carry it around with us into our adult lives. Some of us choose to break the cycle and do everything in our power to make sure we don’t allow our children to have similar childhoods. Some of us break down and aren’t able to deal with adult life. Some of us use those struggles as motivation to keep pushing forward and become a better person.
Miss S is one of those women who keeps pushing forward. I have so much respect for these women because they do not let society define them. They overcome. I approached Miss S to pose for me because she is beautiful inside and out. I have known her for a couple years and she has always been such a kind hearted person. I actually had to convince her that she was pretty enough to model.
We had text back and forth for a couple weeks before her actual shoot. She was actually quite nervous about “boudoir” and wasn’t sure it was for her. Most people that hear about boudoir for the first time get scared away because of the google search. Boudoir doesn’t have to be risky or provocative. I prefer it to be the complete opposite. Miss S did as well and she was such a great person to work with.
Miss S had her makeup done by Dianne the make up artist I work with. I think she did an amazing job. She looks absolutely flawless. Her sister actually came along with her on the shoot for moral support and I hope one day we get to photograph her as well. She was just as fun and spirited as Miss S. During the shoot we had lots of girl talk and shared stories of our childhoods. Miss S has had some of her own struggles and I am so proud of her for overcoming the things she has.
On numerous occasions during our conversations Miss S expressed her love for her boyfriend Tommy. I am so glad she found a man in this world that builds her up and encourages her to embrace herself and to accomplish things in her life. She blushed every time she spoke of him and expressed how much she respected him. We took quite a few shots for Tommy as well but of course those are for his eyes only.
The four of us had such a fun time together. We laughed, cried (I totally got all choked up inside), and just had fun. That’s what photography is for me. It’s growing together, healing, capturing the moment, and holding it close to our hearts. I get to be part of that journey and in all honesty it helps me to heal as well. Miss S is beautiful in every sense of the word. She has become a friend and I hope to spend more time just laughing together and being dorks.
Miss S is just as silly as I am once she loosens up. I enjoyed watching her laugh and grow more comfortable in front of the camera as well as just looking at herself in the mirror. You wouldn’t believe that someone this gorgeous could have any insecurities but we all do. That’s why it’s so important for us women to come together and befriend one another instead of competing and judging. We owe it to ourselves to be comfortable in our own skin.
Miss S, thank you for allowing me to capture this moment in your life. Thank you for sharing your story with me. Thank you for being the fun, loving, caring, woman that you are. Thank you for being you. I enjoyed every moment of our shoot and I wish you all the best in your life!
